Our History
Swinkles Trucking & Excavating Corp. was started in 1949 by Orville Swinkles. The company was founded under the name of “Swinkles and Swinkles” starting with a single dump truck. Orville, with the help of his wife, Angeline, worked endlessly to grow the new company.
In 1971, after working extremely hard for many years, Orville decided to step down as President and handed over the reins to his son, Lyle. Lyle took over and incorporated the company, changing its name to “Swinkles Inc.”
It was also that same year, that Lyle and Orville, decided to buy out a local school bus company adding a fleet of buses to provide bus service for the Freedom School District.
Jim & Mindy Swinkles
Lyle and his wife, Darlene continued to grow the company, adding several dump trucks, excavation equipment, and additional busses to keep up with the growing school district demands. Lyle and Darlene owned the company until 2010 when Lyle retired.
It was at this time, the company sold the bussing portion of the business to Lamers Bus Lines, and the trucking and excavating to Lyle’s son Jim and his wife Mindy. At this time of purchase, it was then renamed Swinkles Trucking & Excavating Corp.
Jim and Mindy have worked tirelessly to continue growing the company, making it what it is today. The company now has approximately 30 employees, including Cody Swinkles, Jim and Mindy’s son, who has an active role in the company.
Even though the company has changed over the years the atmosphere remains the same, walk through the door and feel like your family. One man and his dream turned into a 4th generation company.
